Cavada was on the panel of judges made up of 14 respected members of the design community that include a mix of educators and practitioners. Cavada brings 16 years of product design experience to the table, the majority of it at PDT, where his expertise in housewares products ranges from ice shavers to laminators.
"This award opportunity is so unique and important to the future of design because the students each receive written, constructive critiques from two designers working in the industry right now," said Cavada. "I loved seeing the energy, imagination and passion of up and coming talent and am proud to be involved with helping to prepare this next generation for their future roles as creators and designers."
In a record-breaking year, more than 300 entries had been submitted for review from U.S. schools as well as international schools in UK, Spain, Mexico, Canada, Israel, India and Cameroon. Winning entries in the 23rd annual Student Design Competition feature innovative product concepts addressing real-life problems for homeowners and people living in small spaces.
The first, second and third place winners were announced February 3 and will receive an all-expense paid trip to the 2016 International Home + Housewares Show at McCormick Place in Chicago March 5-8.
PDT, along with their clients, had a record-breaking year in 2015 bringing home 15 design awards. The list of awards can be found at http://www.pdt.com/awards.html. Also, watch for the company's report on trends in the Home and Houseware industry following the show.
